Summary
Effective September 1, 2024, UPMC Health Plan reduced the frequency of paper check and EFT processing each month. However, the plan continues to process clean claims within contractual timeliness standards. The practice is encouraged to enroll in EFTs to receive payments faster than paper checks.
Action Required
By September 1, 2024: Billing team should evaluate current payment receipt patterns from UPMC Health Plan and prepare for reduced paper check frequency. Recommend all staff review enrollment options for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) in the UPMC Health Plan Provider Manual. Contact UPMC Health Plan if not currently enrolled in EFTs to expedite payment receipt. Update internal processes to expect payment batches less frequently and adjust cash flow projections accordingly. No claim submission changes required; clean claims will still meet timeliness standards.
