Summary
UPMC for Kids CHIP coverage has expanded statewide in Pennsylvania, effective July 1, 2025, adding three new counties (Montour, Northumberland, and Pike). All in-network providers rendering services to CHIP members must obtain and maintain a valid PROMISe™ ID (MMIS provider ID) from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for each service location where CHIP services are provided.
Action Required
By June 30, 2025: Billing and credentialing teams must verify that all providers have a current, valid PROMISe™ ID (MMIS provider ID) from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania registered at each service location where CHIP members will be seen. Visit promise.dhs.pa.gov to apply for new PROMISe IDs, enroll additional service locations, or check application status. Update billing system to ensure all CHIP claims are submitted under the correct PROMISe ID. Failure to have a valid PROMISe ID will result in claim denials for all CHIP-covered services rendered to UPMC for Kids members. Designate point of contact with UPMC for Kids Provider Services (1-800-650-8762, option 2) to confirm credentialing requirements and submit any questions before the July 1 effective date.
