Summary
Cardinal Health is recalling multiple lots of Webcol™ Large Alcohol Prep Pads (70% isopropyl alcohol) due to microbial contamination that poses infection risk to immunocompromised patients. The practice must identify affected inventory, cease use immediately, and notify patients and providers who may have received contaminated products.
Action Required
Immediately: (1) Billing/administrative team must identify and quarantine all Cardinal Health Webcol™ Large Alcohol Prep Pads inventory, particularly lots dated March 2026 or earlier. (2) Cross-reference patient records to identify which patients received the recalled product during clinical visits and procedures. (3) Notify affected patients and their providers of the recall per Cardinal Health guidance. (4) Do not bill for services involving recalled alcohol pads—document the product recall in the patient record and claim notes if applicable. (5) Contact Cardinal Health at 800-292-9332 (TTY: 711, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. EST) to verify lot numbers and obtain replacement products. (6) Update supply chain procedures to flag and verify Cardinal Health alcohol pad lot numbers before clinical use. Failure to identify and remove contaminated products may result in patient infections and subsequent liability claims.
