Indiana Medicaid has updated its claim processing system to accept providers with Type 1 (individual) NPIs as attending providers on institutional claims, regardless of their enrollment classification. This resolves previous claim denials with EOB code 1142 for providers who were enrolled under Billing classification rather than Rendering or OPR.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team should resubmit any previously denied institutional claims (inpatient, outpatient, ASC, LTC) that were rejected with EOB code 1142 where the attending provider has a Type 1 NPI. No longer need to request administrative reviews or claim disputes for these denials. Verify attending provider NPI type in system before resubmission.
