Summary
BCBSRI has launched a new Behavioral Health Case Management program staffed by mental health and substance use professionals, effective August 1, 2026. Providers can refer patients via phone (1-800-274-2958), email (triage_group@bcbsri.org), or automated portal form. This is a care coordination service, not a billable service, designed to assist with patient education, care coordination, and social determinant of health gaps.
Action Required
By August 1, 2026: Distribute referral information to all clinical staff who manage BCBSRI patients. Update provider communication materials and internal workflows to include the three referral methods (phone, email, portal form). Inform providers that this is a free case management resource for eligible behavioral health and substance use disorder patients. No billing code changes required; this is a payer-provided service.
