Summary
Effective July 29, 2026, Texas Medicaid has temporarily removed the nonpreferred (non-PDL) status from 16 generic Methylphenidate ER (LA) 10 MG products due to a Sandoz supply shortage and backorder. This change eliminates prior authorization requirements for these specific drugs, allowing providers to prescribe them without PDL approval and enabling patient access to essential medications during the supply gap.
Action Required
By July 29, 2026: Billing team must update pharmacy prior authorization protocols in the billing system to remove PDL prior authorization requirements for the 16 listed Methylphenidate ER (LA) 10 MG NDCs (00781236101, 00781236201, 00781236301, 00781236401, 70010001201, 70010001301, 70010001401, 70010001501, 75907004901, 75907005001, 75907005101, 75907005201, 00093534601, 00093534701, 00093534801, 51862061101, 51862061201). Providers should be notified that prior authorization is no longer required for these specific Methylphenidate products on Texas Medicaid. Monitor communications from HHSC (vdp-formulary@hhs.texas.gov) for when the nonpreferred status is reinstated after the supply issue is resolved, at which time prior authorization requirements will resume.
