Summary
HealthNet California (Medi-Cal, Imperial County) is implementing a new 1-2 minute intervention called 'One Small Thing' to be integrated into postpartum visits. This initiative aims to strengthen patient support and improve follow-up care during postpartum encounters. Providers, PPGs, hospitals, ancillary providers, community support providers, ECM providers, and behavioral health providers must incorporate this intervention into postpartum visit workflows.
Action Required
By July 27, 2026 (immediately): All clinical staff conducting postpartum visits must review the 'One Small Thing' policy flyer (available as PDF download from HealthNet provider library) and integrate the 1-2 minute intervention into postpartum visit protocols. Providers should update their postpartum visit documentation templates and clinical workflows to include this intervention. Billing team should be aware that postpartum visits incorporating this intervention may have enhanced follow-up documentation requirements. Verify that encounter forms capture completion of this intervention as part of postpartum care quality metrics. This policy applies to Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Imperial County only.
