Summary

IHCP is reinforcing documentation requirements for ABA therapy treatment plans by establishing a standardized transition policy for behavior assessment tools. The Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) is moving from BASC-3 PRQ to BASC-4. Both versions will be accepted until October 1, 2026, after which only BASC-4 will be accepted. Providers must update assessment documentation practices accordingly.

Action Required

Before Oct 1, 2026
By October 1, 2026: ABA therapy providers and billing staff must ensure all treatment plans use BASC-4 for behavior assessment documentation. From July 23, 2026 through September 30, 2026: Both BASC-3 PRQ and BASC-4 are accepted during the transition period. Starting October 1, 2026: Only BASC-4 will be accepted for IHCP claims. Billing team must update internal documentation checklists and provider guidelines to reflect this requirement. Providers should review the Behavior Assessment System for Children Brochure and Pearson BASC-4 Resources webpage to understand BASC-4 requirements. Failure to use BASC-4 after the deadline may result in treatment plan denials or claim rejections. Contact Customer Assistance at 800-457-4584 with questions.
