Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico has updated six reimbursement policies affecting preventive services, anesthesia professional billing, hernia repair procedures, pneumatic compression devices, procedure modifiers, and overlapping outpatient/inpatient facility services. The billing team must review each policy individually as they have staggered effective dates between June and October 2026 to ensure accurate claim submission and reimbursement.
Action Required
By October 19, 2026: Billing team must obtain and review the full text of each updated reimbursement policy (RP006, RP010, RP012, RP022, RP023, RP039) from the Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico provider portal. Update billing software, encounter forms, and coding guidelines to reflect changes effective on their respective dates (RP039: June 8, 2026; RP006: July 1, 2026; RP012: July 10, 2026; RP022: July 17, 2026; RP010: October 12, 2026; RP023: October 19, 2026). Coordinate with providers to ensure awareness of modifier requirements and documentation changes. Failure to implement these changes by their effective dates may result in claim denials or improper reimbursement.
