Summary
Highmark is reminding all Medicare providers and facilities that annual compliance training on fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) is mandatory for all employees, contractors, volunteers, and governing-body members who work with Medicare Advantage and Part D members. Training must be completed within 90 days of hire and annually between January 1-December 31, with documentation maintained for the contract period plus 10 years.
Action Required
IMMEDIATE: Administrative staff must verify that all practice personnel (employees, contractors, temporary workers, governing-body members, volunteers, and subcontractors) who interact with Highmark Medicare Advantage or Part D members have completed annual FWA compliance training. By December 31 each year: Ensure all staff complete training via CMS Medicare Learning Network or practice-provided program. Maintain documentation including sign-in sheets, individual attestations, electronic certifications, time records, attendance logs, and certificates of completion. Keep training records on file for the duration of the provider contract with Highmark plus 10 additional years. Prepare documentation for Highmark upon request. New hires must complete training within 90 days of start date. Failure to maintain compliance training records may result in contract violations, audit findings, or termination of the Medicare provider agreement.
