Summary
Nevada Medicaid has changed Presumptive Eligibility (PE) rules effective immediately: individuals who are deemed eligible for or currently receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can no longer be evaluated under any PE category (Hospital or Pregnancy). These applicants must be denied PE and referred to the Division of Social Services for regular Medicaid application instead.

Immediately: Front desk and eligibility staff must update all Presumptive Eligibility screening procedures in Nevada. (1) When an applicant attests to being deemed eligible for SSI or is currently receiving SSI, DENY all PE applications automatically—do not evaluate under Hospital or Pregnancy PE categories. (2) All SSI-related applicants must be referred to the Nevada Division of Social Services (DSS) for full Medicaid coverage through the regular application process. (3) Update intake forms and eligibility determination workflows to include a specific question about SSI status and documentation of the referral to DSS. (4) Train all staff handling PE applications to distinguish between: SSI deemed eligible (ineligible for PE), SSI currently receiving (ineligible for PE), and SSI decision pending (may proceed with PE evaluation). Failure to implement this change will result in incorrect PE approvals and potential claim denials or overpayments.
