DD Waiver DSP Orientation Test Equivalency

By July 1, 2026: DD Waiver providers and Community Services Boards must implement the following: (1) Credential/HR teams must begin accepting completion of VHWDA DSP training modules and test scores as equivalent to the traditional DSP Orientation Test for new DSP hires and existing staff. (2) Update provider credentialing files to include either a copy of completed VHWDA training test results OR final test scores, along with the completed DSP Assurance Form, for all Direct Support Professionals on staff. (3) Ensure all DSP personnel files contain proper documentation to satisfy 12VAC30-122-180 regulatory compliance. (4) For claims billing purposes, verify that all DSP staff meet this new equivalency standard before submitting services for reimbursement, as non-compliant provider enrollment may result in claim denials.
