Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma is transitioning prior authorization and referral approval letters for commercial members from USPS mail to digital access through Availity Essentials Provider Correspondence Viewer, effective July 18, 2026 (approval letters only). Starting September 8, 2026, approval letters will no longer be mailed; denial letters will continue via USPS and remain available electronically. Providers can opt out of digital delivery if preferred.
Action Required
By July 18, 2026: Billing and authorization staff must transition to accessing prior authorization and referral approval letters through Availity Essentials Provider Correspondence Viewer instead of relying on USPS mail. Update internal workflows and staff training to check Availity Essentials for approval letter status. For out-of-area providers: Add the appropriate BCBSOK payer region to Availity profiles via My Account Dashboard > Manage My Organization > Add Payer Region(s). By September 8, 2026: Stop expecting approval letters via USPS for commercial members; rely exclusively on Availity Essentials for approvals. Continue receiving denial letters via USPS as before. If the practice prefers to continue receiving approval letters by USPS, submit an opt-out request email to Provider Education Consultants with NPI, Provider Tax ID, provider name, city/state/ZIP, and requester name before the September 8, 2026 deadline. Note: Third-party vendor prior authorization decisions will continue through existing channels and will NOT appear in Provider Correspondence Viewer. Medicare Advantage approval letters will be added to Availity Essentials at a later date (watch for future announcements).
