Summary
Effective 12/1/2025, Providence Health Plan will cap reimbursement for neuraxial labor analgesia/anesthesia (CPT 01967) at 480 units (480 minutes) for all non-Medicaid lines of business. Any units billed in excess of this 480-unit cap will be denied. Billing teams must implement system edits to prevent claim denials.
Action Required
By November 15, 2025: Billing team must implement a system edit in the billing software to cap reimbursement units at 480 for CPT 01967 claims submitted to Providence Health Plan (non-Medicaid lines). Configure the system to automatically deny or flag any claims exceeding 480 units for this code. Educate anesthesia providers and nursing staff that labor analgesia/anesthesia time documentation cannot exceed 480 minutes per claim or reimbursement will be denied. Update internal billing guidelines and provider bulletins. Verify the edit is active before the December 1, 2025 effective date. Claims submitted without this safeguard will be denied for units billed in excess of 480.
