[California] Reminder: provider data attestation
Anthem BCBS·CA·Provider Bulletin
We identified it
Jul 1, 2026
Summary
Anthem Blue Cross (California) requires all contracted providers to verify and attest their demographic data every 90 days using the Provider Data Management (PDM) feature in Availity Essentials. Failure to complete attestation within 90 days will result in non-compliance status and potential removal from the online provider directory, which directly impacts member access and claims processing accuracy.
Action Required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Immediately: Billing team and practice administrators must ensure all providers with Anthem contracts in California have registered on Availity Essentials (https://Availity.com) if not already registered. No cost for registration or PDM tool access.
- Establish a 90-day attestation cycle: Designate an administrator to access My Providers > Provider Data Management and initiate provider data verification every 90 days. Use either the multipayer platform (Directory Verification and Core PDM) or Roster Upload feature to complete attestation.
- Set internal reminder system: Configure calendar alerts to trigger 30 days before each 90-day attestation deadline to ensure timely completion before non-compliance risk occurs.
- Monitor Availity Essentials notifications: Ensure registered TIN administrators receive and act on automated attestation due/overdue emails and Notification Center alerts sent by Availity.
- For behavioral health providers: If assigned to Carelon Behavioral Health of California, Inc., verify these providers follow Carelon's attestation process instead; CAQH-affiliated providers must attest through CAQH portal.
- Document completion: Maintain records of each attestation submission date and verify profile status to demonstrate compliance.
- Communicate to providers: Notify all contracted Anthem providers of the 90-day requirement and provide access instructions or administrator contact information for those needing PDM access.
CONSEQUENCES: Non-compliance with 90-day attestation will result in removal from Anthem's online provider directory (affecting member access), potential contract violations, and may impact claims processing accuracy and reimbursement timeliness.
