Summary

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network have implemented automatic electronic medical record (EMR) connectivity for select EMR vendors (Allscripts/Veradigm, Practice Fusion, NextGen, athenaPayer, eClinicalWorks, TouchWorks). This enables direct data exchange between provider EMRs and the payers without manual submission. A new FAQ document is available on the provider portal explaining how the data exchange works, affected providers/members, and benefits.

Action Required

Action needed
By end of July 2026: Billing and clinical teams should review the new Electronic Medical Record connectivity FAQs document on the Availity provider portal (availity.com > Payer Spaces > BCBSM/BCN logo > Secure Provider Resources > Clinical Quality > Clinical Quality Resources). Determine if your practice uses one of the supported EMR vendors (Allscripts/Veradigm, Practice Fusion, NextGen, athenaPayer, eClinicalWorks, TouchWorks) and opt-in to data sharing if desired. Verify that your EMR connectivity settings are configured correctly to enable automatic data exchange with BCBSM and BCN. Educate billing staff on the new data flow process and update internal procedures to account for automatic EMR data transmission rather than manual record submission.
