Summary
Anthem Blue Cross is phasing out the suitcase logo on Blue member ID cards across multiple Blue Plans, replacing it with product identifiers (PPO, HMO). This change is rolling out in phases with no completion deadline. Billing teams must continue using normal benefits verification processes and NOT use the presence or absence of the suitcase logo to determine member eligibility, benefits, or BlueCard access.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing and front desk staff must continue standard benefits verification procedures for all Blue members regardless of ID card format. Do not reject or flag claims based on suitcase logo presence or absence. Do not use the logo to determine BlueCard network access or coverage eligibility. Staff should be educated that the visual change to member ID cards does not affect benefits or access. If members or providers have questions about card format changes, direct them to Provider Services using the number on the back of the member ID card.
