Summary
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is phasing out the suitcase logo on Blue member ID cards across multiple Blue Plans. Billing teams must continue using normal benefit verification processes and NOT rely on the presence or absence of the suitcase logo to determine member eligibility, benefits, or BlueCard network access. The change is being implemented in phases with no completion deadline, so cards with or without the logo will coexist during the transition.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing and front desk staff must continue using standard benefit verification procedures for all Anthem Blue members regardless of suitcase logo presence or absence on member ID cards. Do NOT make eligibility, benefits, or BlueCard network determinations based on logo appearance. No system, form, or process changes are required. If staff encounter questions about card appearance during verification calls, direct them to Provider Services using the number on the back of the member ID card.
