Summary
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is phasing out the suitcase logo on Blue member ID cards across multiple Blue Plans, replacing it with product identifiers (PPO/HMO). This change is being rolled out gradually with no completion deadline. Billing teams must continue verifying benefits using normal processes and must NOT use the presence or absence of the suitcase logo to determine member benefits, eligibility, or BlueCard network access.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team and front-desk staff must ensure that member ID card verification processes do NOT rely on the presence or absence of the suitcase logo. Continue using established benefit verification procedures (eligibility checks, BlueCard access verification) regardless of ID card format or logo presence. No changes to billing software, claim submission, or eligibility determination logic are required. Educate staff that cards with or without the suitcase logo have identical benefits and network access.
