Summary

Effective October 1, 2021, Arizona's Medicaid School Based Claiming (MSBC) program expanded to cover ALL Medicaid-enrolled children in participating school districts, not just those with IEPs. School districts can now bill Medicaid for medical and behavioral health services delivered to any Medicaid-enrolled student with documented medical necessity.

Action Required

Action needed
For practices serving school districts: Review contracts with Local Education Agencies to understand expanded billing opportunities for Medicaid-enrolled students. Update billing workflows to accommodate claims for medical/behavioral health services provided to students with 504 Plans, IFSPs, or other individualized health plans beyond just IEPs. Verify medical necessity documentation requirements for school-based services.
