Summary
Highmark is removing the BlueCard suitcase icon from member ID cards and replacing it with product acronyms (PPO, EPO, HMO, etc.). This branding change does not affect member benefits or network access, but billing teams need to understand new card formats during the transition period extending into 2027.
Action Required
Immediately: Train billing and front desk staff to identify out-of-area BlueCard members using the member ID prefix (first three positions) instead of the suitcase icon. Update eligibility verification procedures to focus on the prefix and use Availity Essentials or call BlueCard Eligibility at 800-676-2583 when prefix is unclear. Expect mixed card formats during transition through 2027.
