Summary
Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) must now append the U8 modifier to four specific psychological testing codes when billing Kansas Medicaid. This change is retroactive to May 1, 2022, and CMHCs must submit claim adjustments for previously denied claims.
Action Required
Immediately: CMHCs must update billing systems to automatically append U8 modifier to codes 96136, 96137, 96138, and 96139 for all Kansas Medicaid claims. Submit claim adjustments for any previously denied claims using these codes back to May 1, 2022. Update encounter forms and staff training materials to reflect modifier requirements.
