Summary
For Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC), telephone evaluation and management codes 99441, 99442, and 99443 must now be billed with specific telehealth Place of Service codes (02 or 10) instead of standard office visit codes. This change is retroactive to May 2022 and affects Kansas Medicaid billing.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing teams at CCBHCs must update billing systems to require Place of Service code 02 (Telehealth Provided Other than in Patient's Home) or 10 (Telehealth Provided in Patient's Home) when billing CPT codes 99441, 99442, and 99443 for telephone E&M services. Review and resubmit any claims from May 2022 forward that were billed with incorrect POS codes. Claims with incorrect POS codes may be denied.
