We identified it
Jun 21, 2026
Summary
Kansas Medicaid now allows all enrolled behavioral health providers to bill for Peer Support services (codes H0038 and H0038 HQ) when supervised by licensed professionals, but services cannot be billed for members with acute/residential levels of care or in place of service 21. This change is retroactive to July 1, 2023.
Action Required
Immediately: Behavioral health billing teams must verify that supervising licensed professionals complete required Peer Support Supervisor Training before billing H0038 codes. Update billing system to flag and prevent billing H0038 for members with disallowed Level of Care codes (100, 110, 120, 130, 131, 140, 141, 160, 170, 171, 230, 231, 990) or place of service 21. Maintain training records for all peer support staff and supervisors.
