Summary

Mississippi Medicaid now requires all pediatric providers to use a mandatory Lead Risk Screening Questionnaire for children ages 6-72 months at every well-child visit. If any screening question is answered 'YES' or 'DON'T KNOW', providers must order a blood lead test, with confirmatory venous testing required for capillary levels ≥3.5μg/dL.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Pediatric providers must implement the new Lead Risk Screening Questionnaire for all Mississippi Medicaid patients ages 6-72 months at every well-child visit. Download the questionnaire from ms.gov and integrate into well-child visit workflows. Staff must be trained that any 'YES' or 'DON'T KNOW' responses require blood lead testing. Report any blood lead levels ≥3.5μg/dL to MS Department of Health using their Lead Levels Reporting Form. Failure to complete required screening may result in claim denials.
