Summary

Alaska Medicaid is implementing enhanced front-end claims processing edits for physician-administered drugs to ensure proper NDC (National Drug Code) reporting for federal rebates. Starting July 1, 2021, claims with NDC/HCPCS mismatches will be denied or suspended with specific exception codes rather than being caught in post-payment review.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must ensure all physician-administered drug claims include correct NDC numbers matching HCPCS codes. Verify NDC-to-HCPCS crosswalk matches before submitting claims. Update billing system to capture 11-digit NDC numbers in proper format (no hyphens/spaces) and correct unit conversions. Train staff on new exception codes 4731, 4733, 4735, 4741, 4743, 4745, 4751, 4752, 4753 to understand denial/suspension reasons. Claims with mismatched NDC/HCPCS codes will be denied or suspended for 60 days.
