Summary
Alaska Medicaid updated travel escort requirements and documentation standards for non-emergency medical transportation. Key changes include stricter medical necessity documentation for adult escorts, updated contemporaneous documentation requirements for COMN forms, and clarification on chart note requirements for high-risk pregnancies requiring travel more than 30 days before delivery.
Action Required
Immediately: Review and update travel escort request procedures to include detailed medical necessity documentation on Travel COMN forms explaining what the escort will do that the member cannot do themselves. Include all ADLs and functional limitations. For high-risk pregnancy cases, obtain chart notes when travel is needed more than 30 days prior to delivery, for out-of-state care, or when bypassing closest provider. Ensure all COMN corrections follow contemporaneous documentation requirements.
