Summary
Alaska Medicaid has implemented new service authorization requirements for behavioral health and substance use disorder services effective July 1, 2025, with fiscal year limits resuming and new authorization forms available. The policy also updates travel certification requirements and provides important recoupment process information.
Action Required
Immediately: For Alaska Medicaid behavioral health and SUD services, billing team must begin using new service authorization forms available at the Alaska Medicaid provider portal. Submit SA requests to HMS Gainwell (not Comagine Health, except for PRTF and Level II-IV Residential Home Services). Include treatment plans and current ASAM assessments for SUD services. Update travel certification processes to use new Travel COMN form only for urgent requests requiring additional information. Respond to any recoupment letters within 60 days to avoid automatic recoupment from reimbursements.
