Summary

Alaska Medicaid has updated their urgent travel request process for non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), streamlining requirements for services needed within 3 calendar days. The policy clarifies when attestations are required, acceptable signatures, and eliminates some previous documentation requirements like separate escort authorizations and Travel COMNs for certain scenarios.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Staff coordinating patient travel for Alaska Medicaid members must follow the new urgent travel process: 1) Complete Urgent Travel Attestation and email to AKUrgentTravel@gainwelltechnologies.com with subject line 'Urgent [Member Medicaid ID]', 2) Call NEMT Call Center same day with required member, provider, appointment and escort information, 3) Ensure treating provider or authorized representative signs attestation (no third-party travel coordinators), 4) Use this process only for services within 3 calendar days - appointments 4+ days out must use standard NEMT process.
