New Mexico Medicaid has implemented global billing rates for abortion procedures effective July 1, 2022, requiring providers to use new codes S0199 for medication-assisted abortions and updated rates for surgical abortion codes 59840/59841. Providers must resubmit corrected claims for services rendered from July 1, 2022 to present within 90 days.

By November 19, 2023 (90 days from supplement date): Billing team must resubmit corrected claims for all abortion procedures rendered from July 1, 2022 to present using new global codes - S0199 for medication-assisted abortions (in-person $569.92, telehealth with modifier 95 $213.53), CPT 59840 for D&C ($704.48), and CPT 59841 for D&E ($1,142.66). Bill medications S0191 and S0190 separately. Stop billing ancillary services separately as they are now included in global rates except for unrelated services like contraceptives or vaccines.
