Summary
New Mexico Medicaid increased the mileage threshold for NEMT referrals from 65 to 120 miles and extended referral validity from 6 to 12 months. Providers have 90 days to submit claims for services provided since July 1, 2023 under these new requirements.

By December 4, 2023: Transportation providers serving New Mexico Medicaid patients must update billing procedures to only require written verification for trips over 120 miles (previously 65 miles) and obtain new referrals every 12 months instead of 6 months. Submit any claims for services provided since July 1, 2023 within the 90-day filing window. For managed care claims, follow specific MCO guidance.
