Summary
New Mexico Medicaid has implemented Place of Service (POS) code 27 for street medicine services provided to unsheltered homeless individuals. Providers can now bill for services delivered directly on the street or in non-permanent locations outside traditional healthcare facilities.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update CMS 1500 forms to use Place of Service code '27' in block 24B when providers deliver services to unsheltered homeless individuals on the street or in non-permanent locations. Ensure billing system recognizes POS 27 for covered services including health screenings, primary care, substance use treatment, behavioral health, wound care, lab draws, and case management services.
