Summary
South Dakota Medicaid has resumed coverage for substance use disorder treatment services provided in Institutions for Mental Disease (IMD) after a gap in coverage. Providers must update their enrollment records with taxonomy code 324500000X to bill Medicaid for these services starting June 1, 2024.

By June 1, 2024: Providers offering inpatient substance use disorder services in IMD facilities must log into the Provider Enrollment Portal, add taxonomy code 324500000X with effective date 06/01/2024, update license/accreditation certificates and managing employee information, then submit for review. Contact provider enrollment at 866.718.0084 for assistance. Without this update, Medicaid claims for IMD substance use disorder services cannot be billed.
