Summary
Nebraska Medicaid is implementing work requirements for Medicaid expansion beneficiaries effective May 1, 2026. Hospital-based presumptive eligibility providers must now assess applicants for work requirement compliance using new screening questions before approving eligibility for the Heritage Health Adult (expansion) group.
Action Required
By May 1, 2026: Hospital-based presumptive eligibility staff must implement new screening procedures for Medicaid expansion applicants. Download and use the updated DHHS Presumptive Eligibility Form with Medicaid work requirements addendum from the presumptive eligibility website. Train staff to assess work requirement compliance (80 hours monthly of work/school/volunteering or exemptions) before approving Heritage Health Adult eligibility. Failure to properly screen will result in inappropriate eligibility determinations.
