By October 1, 2002: Hospital billing teams must stop using ICD-9-CM codes 00.51 and 00.53 for psychiatric clinic services and begin using the specified HCPCS codes in Form Locator 44 aligned with psychiatric service revenue codes in Form Locator 42. Continue using category of service 27 (type A) or 28 (type B) in form locator 56P. Update billing software and train staff on new coding requirements.
