Summary
Patient status codes for hospital discharges are changing effective April 1, 2004. Code 11 will be replaced by Code 02 for transfers to short-term hospitals, and new specific codes 62 and 65 must be used for rehabilitation and psychiatric facility transfers respectively.
Action Required
By March 31, 2004: Billing team must update UB-92 billing systems to replace Patient Status Code 11 with Code 02 for discharges/transfers to short-term general hospitals. Implement new Patient Status Code 62 for rehabilitation facility transfers and Code 65 for psychiatric facility transfers. Update billing software and train staff on the new patient status code definitions before April 1, 2004 effective date.
