Summary
Medicare no longer reimburses long-term care facilities for the day of a resident's death, so Medicaid will also stop paying the Medicare co-payment rate for that day. Instead, facilities will receive the standard Medicaid rate for the day of death when the resident was in Medicare status.
Action Required
Billing teams at long-term care facilities must update their systems to bill at the Medicaid rate (not Medicare co-payment rate) for the day of death when residents were in Medicare status.
