Summary

Illinois is transitioning from a direct payment system to a broker-managed program for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services. Starting July 1, 2006, transportation providers can no longer bill the Department directly and must contract with the selected broker vendor to participate in Medicaid/KidCare NEMT services.

Action Required

Action needed
Before July 1, 2006: Transportation providers must contract with the selected NEMT broker vendor to continue participating in Illinois Medicaid/KidCare transportation services. Providers can sign Letters of Commitment with potential bidders but are not bound to contract until the vendor is selected. Failure to contract with the chosen vendor will result in inability to provide NEMT services for Medicaid patients.
