Summary
Illinois requires children in the SASS mental health program who are not enrolled in Medicaid/All Kids to apply for medical assistance. Services after the first 24 hours will not be reimbursed unless an application is filed or an exception is granted.
Action Required
For Illinois providers: When treating children in SASS program without Medicaid/All Kids coverage, assist families in filing medical assistance applications before services extend beyond initial 24 hours. Hospital staff must ensure applications are filed before discharge; community mental health providers must assist with applications for ongoing services. Contact DHS at 773-794-4875 for exceptions if families refuse to apply. Claims for services after 24 hours will be suspended until application is confirmed or rejected without payment.
