Summary
Starting May 23, 2007, ambulatory surgical treatment centers must include the National Provider Identifier (NPI) for billing providers on all claims, but are not required to submit NPIs for payees. Providers should continue using the existing 1-digit payee code system.
Action Required
By May 23, 2007: Billing team must update claims submission system to include NPI for billing provider on all ambulatory surgical center claims. Continue using existing 1-digit payee codes - do not submit NPIs for payees. Update billing software configuration and staff training accordingly.
