Summary
HFS (Illinois Medicaid) began reimbursing community mental health providers for perinatal depression screening and objective developmental screening for children, effective July 1, 2007. These services are now billable only to HFS directly for HFS-enrolled children and pregnant/postpartum women.
Action Required
Community mental health providers should verify they can bill HFS directly using HCPCS H1000 and CPT 99420 with modifier HD for perinatal depression screening, and CPT 96110/96111 for developmental screening. Review HFS-approved developmental screening tools in the Healthy Kids Manual Topic HK-203.53. Ensure proper documentation and follow-up plans are incorporated in clinical records.
