Summary
Illinois Medicaid now requires National Drug Code (NDC) reporting for all physician-administered or dispensed drugs on professional claims. Claims without NDC codes will be rejected effective January 1, 2008.
Action Required
By January 1, 2008: Billing team must update all claim submission processes to include NDC codes for every physician-administered or dispensed drug alongside HCPCS codes. Update billing software to capture NDC information in Loop 2410 for electronic claims or on the service line immediately following the HCPCS code for paper claims. Train staff to report zero charge for NDC lines and proper quantities for multiple NDCs. Claims without NDC codes will be rejected with specific error codes.
