Summary
Illinois Medicaid now requires National Drug Code (NDC) reporting for all physician-administered or dispensed drugs on professional claims. Claims without NDC codes will be rejected starting January 1, 2008.
Action Required
By January 1, 2008: Billing team must update all claim submissions to include NDC codes for every physician-administered or dispensed drug alongside HCPCS codes. Update billing software to reject claims missing NDC codes. Train staff on proper NDC reporting format for both electronic (837P) and paper claims. Claims without NDC codes will be rejected with specific error codes.
