Summary
Effective July 1, 2008, hospitals can no longer bill for professional services of salaried physicians and Advanced Practice Nurses under the hospital's provider number. All claims must be billed under the individual practitioner's name and provider number, requiring enrollment of all salaried physicians and APNs with HFS.
Action Required
Before July 1, 2008: Hospitals must enroll all salaried physicians and APNs with HFS who will be billing for services. Update billing workflows to submit claims under individual practitioner names and provider numbers instead of hospital provider numbers. Ensure all practitioners have obtained NPIs and reported them to HFS. Practitioners may designate the hospital as payee during enrollment. Claims will not be paid without proper individual enrollment.
