Summary
Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) now requires the Billing Provider's NPI on all claim submissions beginning May 23, 2008, with claims being rejected if the NPI is not included. Additional physician NPIs (prescribing, attending, operating) will be required starting July 1, 2008.
Action Required
By May 23, 2008: Billing team must register all NPI information with HFS and update all claim submission processes to include Billing Provider's NPI in Loop 2010AA for electronic transactions, NPI field on Provider Tab for DDE, and appropriate NPI field on paper forms. By July 1, 2008: Add NPIs for all other physician types (prescribing, attending, operating). Continue reporting one-digit payee codes until further notice. Claims without required NPIs will be rejected.
