Summary
Starting August 1, 2009, only physicians who have completed an accredited psychiatric residency program can bill for group psychotherapy services. Physicians must submit HFS 3882 certification form and residency documentation before August 1st or billing will be prohibited.
Action Required
By August 1, 2009: Physicians providing group psychotherapy must complete and submit HFS 3882 form along with accredited psychiatric residency completion certificate or verification letter to Healthcare and Family Services Provider Participation Unit, P.O. Box 19114, Springfield, IL 62794-9114. Billing team must verify all group psychotherapy providers have submitted required documentation before billing for services on or after August 1, 2009. Failure to have HFS 3882 on file will result in prohibited billing and claim denials.
