Summary
Starting September 15, 2010, all pharmacy claims must include the prescriber's individual NPI number. The department will no longer accept DEA numbers, state license numbers, or legacy provider numbers as alternatives for prescription claims processing.
Action Required
By September 15, 2010: All prescribing providers must include their individual NPI (not group/facility NPI) on every prescription they write. Residents must obtain and use their own NPIs. Providers without NPIs should apply immediately at the NPPES website. Failure to include NPI will result in pharmacy claim rejections and patient inconvenience.
