Summary
Effective October 1, 2010, providers must use the Pay-to Provider NPI in Form Locator 2 on UB-04 claims instead of the previously accepted one-digit payee code. The department has updated Appendix H-2 in the Handbook for Hospital Services with new billing guidelines for paper UB-04 inpatient, outpatient, and renal dialysis claims.
Action Required
Immediately: Update UB-04 billing procedures to use Pay-to Provider NPI in Form Locator 2 instead of one-digit payee codes for all inpatient, outpatient, and renal dialysis claims. Billing team must download updated Appendix H-2 from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services website and update handbook pages H-2a(1), H-2b(1), and H-2c(1) with October 2010 revisions. Claims submitted with one-digit payee codes will no longer be accepted.
