Summary
Illinois is implementing a new program to reduce potentially preventable readmissions (PPRs) for Medicaid inpatient hospital services, effective October 1, 2012. Hospitals with PPR rates exceeding predetermined targets will have their prospective payment rates adjusted, with a mandated $40 million reduction in hospital expenditures by June 30, 2013.

By August 1, 2012: Hospital providers must register online using the Hospital Registration link to receive hospital-specific PPR reports. Attend the mandatory PPR Presentation Webinar on July 31, 2012, from 1:30-3:30 PM CDT to understand PPR calculations and policy requirements. Update billing and quality monitoring systems to track potentially preventable readmissions using 3M Corporation PPR software methodology.
