Summary
Effective April 1, 2013, Illinois Medicaid increased copayments from $3.65 to $3.90 and made significant changes to which services require copayments, including removing copays for children's emergency room visits and behavioral health services in certain clinics. The department will automatically deduct copayments from provider reimbursements, and providers remain responsible for collecting copayments from patients.
Action Required
By April 1, 2013: Billing team must update patient collection procedures to reflect new $3.90 copayment amounts for eligible services. Update front desk staff training on copayment exemptions for children under 19, pregnant women, nursing home residents, and other exempt populations. Ensure billing software bills usual charges without deducting copayments as the department will automatically deduct from reimbursements.
